Report: Evesham Crowned Midweek Under 18 Cup Champions
Evesham United claimed the WFA Midweek Under 18 Youth Cup with a convincing display versus Lye Town on Wednesday.
A brace from Sam Clark and goals from Jay Dare and Callum Clayton sealed a 4-1 success for The Robins at their Jubilee Stadium base.
Clark opened the scoring for United on 20 minutes following an excellent run from jinking Jake Cavens.
Picking up the ball just short of the half-way line, the Evesham number 8 drove through the Lye midfield and subsequently played in Clark, who calmly converted under the on-rushing Ryan Pratt.
The Robins continued to pepper Lye’s penalty area prior to half-time and they were eventually rewarded with a second, 10 minutes after the opener.
Combining intricately down the right, Denis Whiteman and Daniel Hill earned one of many first-half Evesham corners and Clark headed home from the resulting set-piece to double the lead heading into the interval.
Lye started the second period with plenty of intent but it was Evesham who struck once more on 61 minutes - Jay Dare turning his marker on the edge of the six-yard box and placing the ball between the legs of Pratt to give his side a comfortable three-goal cushion.
Shortly after, Callum Clayton poked in the fourth following a mix-up between the Lye back-line.
To their credit, Lye kept battling away and earned themselves a consolation after an in-swinging corner was bundled in at the far post.
The last action of the contest saw Evesham's Robert Goodwin receive his second caution for a miss-timed tackle, however The Robins managed to see out the final few minutes without any further dents to the unassailable score-line.
We’d like to thank both sides for an excellent cup final and Evesham United for allowing us to use their superb facilities.
